Linda Fontaine is a lovely,
chameleon-like actress who can play the strong attorney out-for-a-kill,
or look as if she was the one being killed. Her comedic work is as
funny as any stand-up, as witnessed by her performance in The Vagina
Monologues, which played to rave reviews in L.A.
Linda was born and raised in Chicago,
where she comes to LA with an extensive background in theater: Maggie
in Lend Me A Tenor; Kate in the Taming of the Shrew; Angela in Enter
Laughing; Trudy in Social Security… Among her favorite roles
is Pat Green, in Breaking the Code, a play reminiscent of the movie
Brokeback Mountain. Audiences may remember her as the scientist in
love with a homosexual man who couldn’t return her love. The
play was extended for months, and became part of the prestigious International
Theater Festival.
Doing commercials, voice-overs and
industrial films in Chicago, Linda gained all the union cards. One
of her most memorable industrials was being cast by the ad agency
Leo Burnett for a tour of U.S. cities, singing and dancing with a
small group of professionals--with Linda having zero previous experience
in either area. The show lasted six months. They must have loved her!!
She recalls coming home from the last city, New York, to find that
her husband had shaved his head, and her precious cat had disappeared.
What a homecoming!
Now Linda is ensconced in LA with her
husband, daughter and parents, with a couple of more cats thrown into
the mix--a sitcom star in-the-making or a turgid cinematic tragedy,
depending on who ate whose hidden chocolates in the house. The truth?
Linda handles home and professional responsibilities with much aplomb.
In LA, Linda’s done more than
100 TV, radio, and industrial voice-over spots. Everything from airlines
to cosmetics to the kitchen sink--Franke Sinks (to be specific), Thai
International Airlines, a 3 yr. national contract for Best Western
Hotels, Hanmi Bank, Walmart…
She’s appeared in co-star roles
for TV and supporting roles in independent movies. On-stage in LA,
she’s been directed by Dorothy Lyman, Alan Feinstein and performed
in a two-person short play with Dee Wallace Stone at UCLA. Linda’s
a graduate of the Univ. of Illinois, the Joanne Baron studio, and
has trained with Uta Hagen. She studied at the Second City in Chicago,
and performed in a AID’S Benefit there with Second City Alumni.
Now that her husband’s
hair has grown back and her formerly missing cat has lived a long happy
life with them, Linda contemplates a new hiding place for chocolate
in her home…her own secret stash.
